You’ve seen David Banks before. You might not know it, but you have. Don’t believe us? Watch his reel that we’ve embedded. We can wait…
Banks has starred in commercials for many of your favorite products and in short order his undeniable talents are being recognized in the film world as well. After writing and starring in the film Cut! he was tapped to costar alongside Heather Graham in her directorial debut, Half Magic, and this is only the beginning. A hard working, naturally funny, all around nice guy, it’s our opinion that you’ll be seeing him even more in the years to come.
We got to ask him a few questions in preparation for his appearance in one of the first episodes of the all new Turnabout Podcast (date will be announced soon) and he certainly left a great first impression!
In another interview, you stated you’d like to work with Ray Liotta. Most people will remember him for the film Operation Dumbo Drop, or the role he had in Muppets From Space. What is it about Liotta, an actor known for spending most of his career in family friendly comedies, that is intriguing to a dramatic actor like yourself?
Ahhhhh Ryan Are we talking about the same Ray Liotta? (LAUGHS) I was unaware of his appearances in those family friendly films. For some reason I think of GoodFellas, Blow, or Iceman. But the great thing about a chameleon actor such as Ray is that he can morph into any character. Muppet Or Mobster.
At what age did your father (an advertising man) inform you, you would be disowned by the family if you didn’t start working in commercials?
Actually it was the opposite. As soon as I was old enough to say my own name I was taken aside and told to stay as far away as possible from the business! After I finished my veggies of course! (LAUGHS)
I’m kidding! My parents were both very supportive of my interest in the arts, but were also in favor of the famous “back up plan.”
You act and play drums in a band. You realize Jason Schwartzman accomplished that a long time ago right?
Darnit!!!! I thought I was the only one! But can Jason twirl his sticks and drive his neighbors crazy playing along with Metallica songs until midnight?
An interview with The Huffington Post revealed you chew with your mouth open. Is this on your resume? And will this talent be on display in Heather Graham’s Half magic?
It’s on my resume right next to terrible driver, doesn’t play well with others, poor social skills, and late night junk food fanatic!
I was actually told to stay away from craft services on that set after all the cookies somehow ended up in my knapsack. I blame them for leaving them out.
In all seriousness, you’re a wonderful guy, a good sport (to say the least), and we will continue this conversation on the all new Turnabout Podcast (with real questions… maybe) in the near future. But for now, tell people about where they should look for you between now and then and anything else you might have coming up?
Well if they look hard enough most likely I can be found at one of many “All you can eat buffets”, or anywhere that serves extra strong black coffee with free refills. If not there I can be found on twitter @DYNAMITEDORK or www.davidbanks.tv.
