Film Title: The Peculiar Adventures of Willow B. Star
Gravelsville, USA is a magnet for the most comically twisted villains the world has ever seen. Ancient legends, scientific theories, and even the laws of nature are employed in their diabolically dark plots. Evil lurks around every corner. And only the sarcastic, fourth wall breaking, super-sleuth, Willow B. Star, and her brilliant canine companion, Stinky, stand in their way.
Key People (cast, crew, etc.):
Why did you decide to submit to FirstGlance?
Who wouldn’t want to be a part of FirstGlance? It’s a legendary festival that has featured tons of amazing films and showcased stars. I feel blessed to be included.
Will someone from your team be attending FirstGlance?
Yes, Andy Roth (Writer/Producer … and the voice of “Stinky”)
What is something you feel is important for our readers to know about your film?
The Peculiar Adventures of Willow B. Star is a quirky homage to some of the greatest mystery storytellers in the world. From David O. Selznick and Hitchcock, to Agatha Christie, these spine tingling adventures, told from a teenage perspective, are an inspiring and fresh take on a fascinating global cultural phenomenon … the amateur detective.
What should viewers expect from your film?
A marriage of new animation technologies and old school cartoon mentality. The humor was greatly influenced by Bugs Bunny, Woody Woodpecker, and Rocky and Bullwinkle. There is as much here for adults as there is for kids.
Do you have any production stories our readers might enjoy?
Creator, Ariane Smith comes from a long history in Children’s Entertainment. So when she watched “Twin Peaks” and Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and said, “You know, this would make a great kids show.” Everyone actually took her seriously.
What are you looking forward to most at FirstGlance?
I’m very much looking forward to connecting with other filmmakers and seeing the live audience’s response. Getting a deal wouldn’t be so bad either.
