Why did you decide to submit to FirstGlance?
It’s a very cool, indie fest that #supportsindiefilm. Also, bi-coastal with excellent venues. Had to do it!
Will someone from your team be attending FirstGlance?
Yes. I (Matt Hausmann) plan on attending along with a few producers and the majority of the cast.
What is something you feel is important for our readers to know about your film?
It’s raw. It’s crude. It’s in your face. Borderline farce. The short works as a prequel to the feature-length film. I didn’t want to make a dead-end short and feel like this is more of a pitch for other avenues of the story. Like a feature version, a comic book, or a web series. The feature-length version picks up right after the short ends. The characters are in a different point in their lives but the story of Bigfoot taking over the world kicks off the plot. The tone is very similar to the short and is a cross between the camaraderie of Ghostbusters, the action of Planet of the Apes, the campiness of Army of Darkness, and the humor of Naked Gun or Spy. On the sixth draft now!
What should viewers expect from your film?
Hopefully to laugh! It’s somewhat of a horror comedy, hanging more on the comedy aspect of it. The beginning was shot with more of a documentary-style feel and as it progresses it becomes more of a traditionally shot film incorporating dolly shots/steadicam/sticks. I hope people enjoy the craziness of the characters and story. In addition, the score is its own character in itself. Brandon really brought a wide spectrum of fun character themes sometimes sounding like the adventure of Indiana Jones all the way to the spaghetti western of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Do you have any production stories our readers might enjoy?
Greg Manke who played Bigfoot went through hours of makeup and had to wear this unbearably hot/tight suit. He was outside the location we were shooting and sipping a Starbucks ice blended coffee. A pit bull and their owner came around the corner, (behind the location was a park), and the dog freaked out after seeing Greg as Bigfoot. It peed and dragged its owner around the corner. Don’t mess with the Foot!
What are you looking forward to most at FirstGlance?
Always great to have your film be accepted into a new festival. Especially the venue! It never gets old seeing your film up on the big screen. Can’t wait to check out the other indies running as well and talk with some filmmakers.
